| About Summersongs |
|
The art of songwriting is an important mirror of our culture. Many divergent points of view and experiences can be expressed in a song, which may not find expression in any other way. Songwriters give us valuable insights in to the evolution of our values and our direction as a culture. Left only to the vagaries of the marketplace, there is no guarantee that we will hear the best of what our way of life has to offer in the world of songs and songwriting.
There are seasonal camps, in both summer and winter, on both the East and West coasts, with plans for further expansion of events and opportunities. We hold songwriter's camps in the Catskills of New York, and in Southern California. The New York camp is held at Ashokan Field Campus: a beautiful campground and conference center with cabins, a small lake, a stream, a campground in a pine forest, meeting halls, classrooms, and all the makings of a really good time, including delicious meals. So join us!Workshops will take place during the day, with plenty of time to relax and play music, compose, swim, sauna or just listen to other people jam. In the evenings we will have concerts and song circles, a coffeehouse and jams that go far into the night. This will be an exciting and inspiring project to bring together students from all over the country to study with some of the best songwriters in the world. SummerSongs Mission Statement:The mission of SummerSongs is to encourage, support and promote the creation of songs, the work of songwriters, and to facilitate the inclusion of original songs in the life of communities by providing:
And by fostering conditions within communities which inspire and encourage artistic expression. |
